If you are looking for a unique summer day camp experience, your search is over! New Horizons Day Camp is New Jersey’s Premier Inclusive Day Camp. At New Horizons Day Camp, campers will customize their own schedules to explore their interests while having a traditional day camp experience. Campers can choose from a variety of activities in sports, science, technology, creative arts, performing arts, innovations, academic enrichment, and media. Activities change throughout the summer offering campers opportunities to continue a favorite or try something new. New Horizons offers weekly flexible scheduling options to meet the needs of today’s families. The staff consists of educators, professionals in their field and skilled counselors who are committed to making sure your child’s camp experience is memorable and enriching.


New Horizons Day Camp was established in 2012 by Seth Blender and Chris Purdue formerly of Camp Horizons at Newark Academy. New Horizons offers children a camp experience that is safe, fun, innovative and close to home. We provide an all day camping experience with flexible weekly scheduling that fits the needs of today’s family. Campers choose their own schedules from a menu of exciting activities, including sports & swim, arts & crafts, technology, performing arts, and academics, all delivered with a focus on our 8 core values.

Door to Door Busing available in specific towns. All other towns will meet bus at designated time and location. Families who meet bus will receive a $25 per week discount.

Owners and Directors
Chris Purdue is a Health and Physical Education Teacher at Collins Elementary School in Livingston, NJ with 12 years of experience teaching at multiple schools within the District. Chris holds a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from Montclair State University as well as one in Educational Leadership. He holds both his Supervisor’s Certificate and Principal’s License. Before New Horizons, Chris directed the sports program at Camp Horizons for 8 summers from 2005 through 2012. Chris currently lives in Kinnelon, NJ with his wife and two sons.

Seth Blender has been involved in day camps for 15 years. He spent the majority of his camping career at Camp Horizons in Livingston, NJ. During his 10 summers at Camp Horizons, Seth was a Kindergarten and 1st grade counselor and during his last 2 summers was the Director of the Shadow Counselor program at Camp Horizons with direct supervisory responsibility for special needs campers in grades 5 through 9. Currently, Seth is a Special Education Teacher for the Glen Ridge Public Schools and holds a Masters Degree in Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction. Seth lives in Cedar Grove, NJ with his wife, son and daughter.
Key Staff Bios
Jillian Blender, the Assistant Director works closely with staff and campers. She aids in program planning, staff development, and daily camp operations. She is currently a teacher in the Glen Ridge school district, with five years of teaching experience in Glen Ridge and Elizabeth schools, specializing in Language Arts & Special Education. During the school year, she is also the Counselor & Mentor Coordinator for the Breaking Boundaries Program. Jillian enjoyed eight summers working as a Kindergarten/1st grade counselor at Camp Horizons. She is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts with a degree in Education.
Mike Wynee has been teaching video production for 10 years, first at Camp Horizons and now at New Horizons Day Camp. Over the past decade he’s taught hundreds of campers various aspects of media including; Radio, Film Making, and Digital Video Editing. During the year, Mike works with the NY Film Critics Series in a variety of roles, and currently serves as a Co-Producer. He graduated from Boston University in 2008 where he majored in Film and Television. Mike has worked in production for Good Morning America and Dr. Phil as well as a Producer for Theory Films, Inc. In his current position, Mike helps oversee screening operations to guarantee the highest quality events for audiences.
Stefanie Bengal graduated from the University of Scranton with a degree in Elementary Education. She has 6 years of experience teaching fourth and fifth grade in the Wayne Public Schools and is working towards her Master’s degree in Special Education. Stefanie wears many hats a camp. She coordinates all academic programs as well as teaches dance and helps with all the day to day operations of camp. You may see Stefanie answering phones, meeting with new parents and campers, or full of ink from a tie-die activity. The thing she loves most about camp is making connections with the campers and their families.
After retiring from a 25-year international corporate career to spend more time with her family, Barbara was the Office Manager at Camp Horizons in Livingston for three years and helped to launch New Horizons Day Camp in 2012. She has an MBA, traveled extensively worldwide throughout her career, and has lived and worked in South America, Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia. Barbara loves helping New Horizons campers, staff and our camp families and her boys can’t wait to return for another summer of fun at New Horizons Day Camp.
Lynn Orozco, is a certified Reading Specialist with more than 25 years of classroom teaching experience. Lynn teaches at Harrison Elementary School in Livingston and also is the PARCC test coordinator. Lynn will be working with campers at their current reading level on essential skills and strategies based on the Common Core State Standards. Lynn will also engage the campers in performing Reader’s Theatre, poems, and skits/plays with awesome props! In addition, Lynn and other camp staff will be assessing current math levels based off of current grade level performance in order to plan appropriate strategies to maintain or improve math skills.
Amanda Droussiotis is currently a visual arts teacher in the Mahwah school district. She graduated from Pratt Institute of Art with a degree in Animation, and continues to play a small part in the industry. She received her MA in Fine Art Education at Kean University. She has worked in fine art galleries and creative writing and fine art after-school programming for children and teens. Her creative and teaching endeavors focus on fostering creative communities of all ages and talents.
Gianna DeCuba is the Unit Head Counselor for 2nd-5th grade. She is a student at The College of New Jersey studying Elementary Education, in preparation to become a classroom teacher upon graduation. She worked as a Shadow Counselor for three years at Camp Horizons and was a Group Head Counselor for 4th-5th grade for three years at New Horizons Day Camp. She brings her excitement, enthusiasm, and caring nature into camp every day to create a fantastic experience for all campers.
Jason Mittleman is the Director of both the Shadow and Transitional Counselor Programs. He is currently a para-professional within the Millburn Public School system and is finishing up his bachelor’s degree at Montclair State University. Jason has an abundance of experience with helping children with disabilities in both public and private school settings. He strives and looks forward to making every child’s summer as successful as it can be.
